To play footsie — кокетничать, заигрывать. Буквально означает касаться под столом ноги или ступни соседки своей ногой или ступней так, чтобы не видели другие. Последующая реакция покажет, приемлемо или нет ваше нахальство. Это выражение совсем не связано с the footsie index (индекс «футси»), который является акронимом FTSE (Financial Times Stock Exchange). Этот индекс — показатель финансового «здоровья» акций 100 ведущих британских компаний.
